Revenge of the Daleks
"So, where to this time?" asked Sarah. She was sweating with
the heat, as the TARDIS had no air conditioning.
"I think to the Gurgan galaxy, then it could be anywhere,"
replied the Doctor. The pair where thinking about what lay ahead. "It
might only be a routine case," said the Doctor, who thought it would
cheer Sarah up, as she was in a bad mood with the heat.
K9 was moving around a lot - more than usual. That meant his battery
was low. "I think I'll charge up K9," said the Doctor. When
he plugged up K9, the TARDIS landed.
When the Doctor opened up the TARDIS doors, Sarah gasped. Right in front
of her was a man, but the thing that made her gasp was the weapon on his
shoulder. It was a pulse laser burner. The type of gun that shot high
energised laser bolts and had a built in flame thrower. The man motioned
for Sarah and the Doctor to follow him. They did.
*******
Captain Swife was lying in his bed. He was used to floating in space.
He was also used to the metal walls of his beacon called Nerver. He was
leaving when the year was over. Suddenly, on the monitor, a man told him
to come to the bridge. "OK, I'll be up there in a minute," replied
Swife.
*******
Sarah sat down in a weapon-controller's chair. The man with the gun had
taken her to the bridge. He told Sarah to wait there. Sarah had time to
get away, because the man had gone after the Doctor, but the door was
locked. Ssshh - the door opened and an android walked in. It was wearing
a greenish-silvery vest. Sarah read the small sign on its vest: V16. She
knew that the V stood for Vok, a common type of robot.
"Please come with me," said the robot in a hollow voice.
Sarah didn't have a choice.
*******
The Doctor ran down a hallway. The man with the gun had gone. Suddenly,
the man, with two androids, appeared. They charged at the Doctor and began
a wild goose chase. One android had a black vest on with a small sign
that read: S38. S for silent, for they cannot speak. The other robot was
called V19. The man moved ahead of the robots. "Take him to the bridge,"
he ordered them.
*******
Sarah was worried. "Where is the Doctor?" she wondered. She
and V16 were on the top section of the bridge. Ssshh - a door opened behind
them. Android S38 threw the Doctor in.
"Please wait here," said V16, as he followed S38 out the door.
Ssshh - the door closed. Five minutes later, a man walked in with an android
called SV7. The SV stood for super-Vok. The man was chubby and had white
hair.
"Identify yourselves," said the man.
'I'm the Doctor, and this is Sarah," replied the Doctor.
Ssshh. A man with black hair and a blaster clipped to his belt rushed
through the door. "Captain, a fleet of unknown ships is on our radar,"
said the man. "And they are moving toward the beacon."
"Hang on," said the chubby man. "I am Captain Swife,"
he said to the Doctor.
"Captain!" said the man.
"All right," replied Swife. "You come with us," he
told the Doctor.
*******
Wyler Yanges was monitoring the ten blobs on the radar. 'Hello, this
is Nerver beacon. This is Nerver beacon," he said into the transmitter
microphone. No reply. All of a sudden, the blobs stopped. Vrmmm - a man
with blond hair walked through the door.
"Walker?" asked Wyler. "What are you doing here? I thought
you were in your cabin."
"I came here with something I wanted to ask you," said Walker.
"Wyler, do you know a lot about life?"
"'Well yes," replied Wyler.
"Good, because you should know how it ends," said Walker as
he jabbed a syringe in Wyler's arm. Walker pulled out the syringe. Wyler
slumped to the floor, veins glowing through his skin.
*******
"Wyler's signal will not respond," said V16 to Swife.
"Wyler has the plague," said SV7 as he walked out of the scanner
room door.
'The Doctor rushed into the control room. A man was lying on the floor
in front of him. "May I examine him?" said the Doctor.
"All right," said Captain Swife. "We don't want him. But
you'll have to do it in the medical room."
*******
Meanwhile, in his cabin, Walker was sending a Morse code message to the
blobs on the radar.
*******
Beep, beep, beep.
"We have received the message from Walker," said the red Leader
Dalek in its hollow metallic grating voice.
"Shall I fly towards the beacon?" said the grey-blue drone
dalek.
"You shall," replied the Leader Dalek.
A dalek attack ship turned towards the beacon and accelerated.
"Prepare for docking," said the Leader Dalek to three battle
daleks.
*******
"This cannot be a plague," said the Doctor, puzzled.
"How do we know what it is?" said the man with the blaster
gun clipped to his belt. The man was called Narsh.
"Well, why didn't you get it identified by your medical crew?"
asked the Doctor.
"They were among the first victims," replied Captain Swife.
"The radar's gone out," said Walker as he walked into the room.
"Show me," said Swife.
Boop, boop, boop.
"Something's coming in to dock," said Narsh.
"Let's find out what," said the Doctor. "Sarah, you stay
here."
*******
"Stay down, this is Nerver beacon. I repeat, stay down," said
Swife into the transmitter microphone.
"Look, one ship is docking from the fleet," said the Doctor.
"It's trying to dock," said Narsh.
"We can't let that happen," said Swife.
"Too late!" shouted Walker from a speaker.
"Let's take a look," said Swife.
*******
Two minutes later, Swife, the Doctor and Narsh arrived at the docking
port. The door was blasted apart to reveal four daleks. The daleks set
their guns to paralyze mode and blasted the three humans.
*******
"This can't be," said Sarah. "How can I be beaten by a
robot?"
"Checkmate, it is," replied V9. The chess game was won by black.
The king was trapped in a column through its own pieces.
*******
"What have you come here for?" asked the Doctor.
"Zaphite crystals," replied the red Leader Dalek.
"What for? We have none," said Swife.
"The zaphite crystals are for producing more weapons, and the planet
you are orbiting has millions of them," said the Leader Dalek.
"You can't keep us here!" said Narsh.
"Stand down, or be exterminated," said a black battle dalek.
Ssshh.
"Walker?" said Swife, puzzled.
Walker stepped through the door. A space-uzi machine gun was in his hand.
"Should I finish them off?" asked Walker.
"No, we stick to the plan, but the Doctor stays here," replied
the Leader Dalek.
"There's a girl on board, too," said Walker. "Can I get
her?"
"You may proceed," replied the Leader Dalek.
*******
Taka, taka, taka. Boom!
Walker blasted into the crews quarters. Sarah quickly dodged all the
bullets.
Taka, taka, taka, taka, taka! Bzzz... smash! Bang! Boom! Glass and sparks
flew everywhere.
Taka, taka, taka... click, click, click.
'"Blast! Cartridge ran out," said Walker. "I'll switch
to stun mode - luckily that runs on batteries."
Lucky for Walker, not Sarah. Fortunately, behind her was a locker with
four smoke guns inside. Sarah took one, got out of her hiding space and
shot a blast of smoke at Walker. Walker couldn't see, but Sarah could!
She ran out of the door, but then saw a metallic shape that made her gasp.
*******
Walker was furious! He fired a round of stun shots somewhere through
the smoke. "Arrgh!" He heard a scream. "I must have hit
the girl," thought Walker.
*******
The dalek shouted and screamed. A stun bolt had gone straight through
its eye-stick. Sarah was frozen in terror. What if there were more daleks
around? Suddenly, Sarah had an idea. Sarah crept behind the dalek and
quickly pressed a tiny button on the dalek's head - a shutdown button.
The dalek stopped.
Click... whirrrr. The dalek's head popped open.
Sarah took out a squirming, toad-like creature; the real dalek! She threw
it on the metal floor and watched it wriggle away. She took a deep breath
and climbed into the dalek "suit". Inside was amazing. It was
filled with controls, with one chair in the middle. Sarah hopped into
the chair and pushed a small red switched flashing on and off.
Veeeoooow! Ka-boom!
"The fire button," though Sarah. She pressed a green button
and all the displays lit up. A hatch opened and out popped a joystick
between her legs. The dalek suit's head closed. a column came down from
somewhere. It had two clamps on the end of it that clamped onto Sarah's
head. At first, Sarah struggled to get free from it, but finally she relaxed.
Then two lenses came down from the column, like binoculars.
"Ahh, vision," said Sarah. Some vision. Everything was clear,
but in black and white. Sarah turned her head. Her vision moved with it.
The column was attached to the dalek's eye-stick! The clamps were on Sarah's
head so that she could move the eye-stick and see at the same time.
Sarah grabbed the joystick. She pushed it forward. There was a jerk and
she could see that she had moved forward about two steps. Sarah realised
that if she pushed the joystick forward and held it, she would keep going
forward. If she did the same to the right, she would keep turning right!
And so on and so forth.
Slowly, Sarah made her way through the corridors and lifts. Finally,
she found herself pointing to the control room door. She prepared to go
inside.
*******
"Here's the map," said Walker, putting it on the table in front
of the Leader Dalek.
"This will lead us to the planet we wish to destroy!" announced
the Leader Dalek.
"Victory will be ours!" cried the two battle daleks together.
"Where have you been?" demanded the Leader Dalek, looking at
the third dalek in the control room doorway.
"You should have come here five minutes ago," shouted the first
battle dalek.
Sarah didn't know what to do. Her eyes ran along the controls. Then she
spotted a microphone. Sarah spoke into it. This is what she said. "I
got lost."
She put her head in the clamps. The eye closed. Sarah could see the Leader
Dalek saying back to her. "Is your computer map damaged?"
"Err... yes," replied Sarah.
"I will take you back to the ship," said a battle dalek.
In her haste, Sarah accidentally pressed the fire button.
Veeeoooow! Boom! Sarah had just blown up the dalek who offered to escort
her back to the ship! Sarah spun around and rushed out the door. She popped
open the dalek suit head and ran down the hallway, then hid in a closet.
*******
The Leader Dalek sent another dalek from the ship to find Sarah.
"Why do you want to destroy Varos?" asked the Doctor. "It's
a mining planet.
"We wish to collect all its inhabitants, which will be converted
into daleks, then destroy it," replied the Leader Dalek.
"Walker, you're a traitor!" yelled Swife. Walker ignored him.
"Why do you want to DESTROY Varos?" said Swife.
"The planet will be useless to us then. And there may be people
still not captured on the planet. They could alert a patrol base to tell
where we are heading. The patrol would find us, take our slaves, and..."
"Will you take any certian minerals from Varos?" interrupted
the Doctor.
"Yes. Acid Rock 5," replied the Leader Dalek.
"Why do you want it?" questioned the Doctor.
"For a bomb," replied the Leader Dalek.
"To blow up Varos!" shouted Swife.
"No," said the Leader Dalek. "We will use it for another
purpose."
"Then what will you use to destroy Varos?" said Narsh. He drew
his laser gun.
"Veeeoooow! Poouf! Narsh's laser gun was vaporized by a dalek laser
cannon. Walker tied up Narsh.
" I want to talk more about zaphite crystalsm," continued the
Doctor.
"Yes," replied the Leader Dalek. "As I told you, we want
them for weapons, and to charge up the beacon's laser cannon, which we
will use to destroy Varos,"
*******
"Come out or be exterminated!" said the dalek.
Sarah was in trouble. The dalek was only a door away. Outside the dalek
was counting.
"One, two, three..."
"Peeoow! Peeoow! Peeoow! Boom!
Sarah opened the closet door. "SV7!" she said, sounding relieved.
Outside was SV7 holding a small random blaster.
"I have a plan," said SV7. "Follow me."
*******
"What will you do with us?" asked the Doctor.
"None of your business," replied the Leader Dalek.
The Daleks left the room. The Doctor found his sonic screwdriver behind
his bonded hands. He cut his bonds loose.
"You're next," the Doctor said to Swife.
*******
SV7 lead Sarah to a room. It had a half-circle control room. In front
of the panel were about 20 TV screens. SV7 typed in a program.
"That program will tell all the robots to destroy a dalek if they
see one," said SV7. "Basically, all robots are now dalek killers."
"SV7, that's a great plan," exclaimed Sarah.
*******
Back in the dalek ship, the daleks were returning to their fleet of nine
ships. Suddenly, a dalek battlecruiser appeared from hyperspace.
"The Dalek Emperor will be on that ship," said the Leader Dalek.
"Prepare to dock."
*******
"I've just figured it out," cried the Doctor.
"What?" said Swife.
"I know!" said Narsh. "The explosion from Varos will destroy
the beacon!"
"I'm sorry, but SV7's plan failed," said Sarah. "All the
daleks are gone."
"Not forever," said the Doctor.
*******
"What is your progress?" asked the Emperor Dalek.
"Perfect," replied the Leader Dalek. "We will prepare
to fire in ten minutes,"
*******
"I've got it!" said the Doctor.
"What?" said Narsh.
"Look, when I stepped outside the TARDIS, I noticed two fighters
with laser guns on each side, in a launch tube. How many do you have?"
"Sixteen, including the two you saw?" replied Swife.
"Yes, well," said the Doctor. "If we can launch them at
the dalek ships, we could gain enough time to turn the beacon at the daleks."
"Good plan, Doctor," said Swife. "It will destroy the
daleks for good."
"Let's not waste time," said Sarah.
*******
Five minutes later, on a dalek ship, a dalek noticed sixteen fighters,
each with a robot pilot, coming straight at them.
"Alert! Alert!" screamed the dalek.
But it was too late. The dalek ship was destroyed in a hail of laser
fire. All the dalek ships started firing all their laser cannons, turrets
and missile tubes. At the same time, the dalek battlecruiser moved behind
the fleet of ships.
"We are under attack. Put up all shields!" commanded the Emperor
Dalek.
*******
"Split up," said SV2, inside his fighter.
"Look out!" said V16.
A swarm of Dalek fighters came out from the battlecruiser. They were
disc shaped with a laser gun on the bottom. All of them were controlled
by a computer to reduce dalek pilots. One of them chased SV2 in his triangle-shaped
fighter.
Veeeoooow! Veeeoooow! Blue lasers streaked past SV2. But he was too quick.
The last thing the dalek fighter saw was its target coming towards it,
firing red laser bolts.
Booom! The dalek fighter was gone. But there was too many.
"Help!" shouted V29 as his ship was hit by a fighter. His ship
exploded on the dalek battlecruiser.
" I got one!" shouted V52.
*******
Back on the dalek ship, Walker was complaining. "What about my
reward?" asked Walker.
"We have no need for you now," replied a battle dalek. It turned
to a drone dalek. "Eject him!"
"Noooo! Please, no!" But it was too late. Walker was shoved
out the airlock.
*******
"Doctor, the beacon's steering controls are jammed by dalek code,"
exclaimed Swife.
"Don't worry, I know the code," said the Doctor. "They
use the last code anyone would think of: kelad."
The Doctor ran up to the control pad and put in the code.
"We've got four minutes. Hurry!" said Narsh.
*******
Pugoo! Pugoo! Pugoo! Pugoo! Four missiles fired from the dalek battle
cruiser's missile tubes.
"Look out!" cried V84. The explosion from the missiles destroyed
two of the beacon's fighters. Now only thirteen fighters remained, but
about 36 dalek fighters. Suddenly all the dalek ships, except the battlecruiser,
charged at their rivals, lasers firing everywhere. The battle was huge,
turrets spinning widely, fighters crashing into each other, flame and
debris flying everywhere, until the dalek ship docked with the battlecruiser
exploded!
Fortunately, for the Daleks, the cruiser was not damaged. One minute
later the ships backed off into their sides, eight beacon ships, twenty-seven
dalek ships. Was there hope for SV2 and the other robots, and Swife, Narsh,
Sarah and the Doctor?
*******
"Our shields are failing. Prepare escape pods," said the Leader
Dalek. The first escape pod was launched, but was hit by a laser. A quarter
of the pod exploded, then the whole thing blew up.
"Get me a pod with shielding," said the Emperor Dalek.
*******
As SV2 was returning was returning to the beacon, he noticed it moving.
"Time is up, all robots return to the beacon," he cried.
*******
"Doctor, the beacon's blaster will fire in two minutes," said
Swife. The beacon's blaster started glowing bright green. Soon the blaster
was aimed at the Dalek fleet.
*******
"All the escape pods have been ejected," said the Leader Dalek.
"I have prepared yours."
"Good, since it is a two seater, we will both go in it," replied
the Emperor Dalek.
The green escape pod blasted out of it's tube and flew off into space.
*******
"Doctor, get in here or you'll be vaporized by the laser field!"
shouted Swife.
"All right, I'm coming." The Doctor hurried into the metal
room.
*******
Tsseeeeeeeeeeeeeew! The last thing the remaining daleks saw was a huge
beam of white laser in front of them. The dalek fleet was no more.
"Thank you for helping us," said Swife. "Now we can get
our patrol ship to pick us up."
Just then, the TARDIS rematerialized.
"Well, this is where we leave," said the Doctor.
"Wait, cant' I..." began Sarah. She was interrupted by the
Doctor pulling her into the TARDIS. The TARDIS dematerialized.
